Opportunities to volunteer and support other transplant recipients?
Updated January 2, 2024

Hi all! I'm Dusty and I'm new to the community (and happy to be here).
I've mentioned to a couple of folks already, but I'm curious if anyone here has had experience supporting other transplant patients and/or volunteering with related organizations?
I'm a kidney transplant patient (next summer will be 15 years post-op!) who is really interested in supporting others going through similar issues.
Thanks for any help!

Hi Dusty,
GREAT - that is what we are all about here at TransplantLyfe and as an extension, Lyfebulb.
We support each other through the forum and 1x1, as well as through our community management program, our educational seminars and much more. Perhaps we can speak later this week if you have time??
Thank you so much for your quick response, Karin!
I'd love to connect to learn more about how to get involved. I have a lot of availability on Friday, if you do, between 2-3p EST and anytime after 4p EST. I can imagine you're very busy!
(I connected on LinkedIn, too.)
I hope you have a great day!
Hi Dusty,
In addition to Karin's wonderful suggestion, there are a number of nonprofits that help transplant patients that would benefit from your help! For example, I run a nonprofit called Heartfelt Help Foundation that helps heart transplant recipients in Northern California with post-transplant housing. Every area has an office of the NKF that needs specialists to provide support. There are so many ways that transplant recipients can get involved and give back to our community. You really get so much more than you give!

Welcome Dusty. There are a lot of opportunties to work with patients and their caregivers. TransplantLyfe is a great community of some awesome folks. Here to help if you need anything.

Welcome, Dusty! So delighted to have you here. There are also many advocacy opportunities in your local state or Washington DC (organizations usually pay volunteers for travel) through NKF, AKF, Donate Life, and Dialysis Patient Citizens (applications now open here: https://www.dialysispatients.org/webforms/annual-advocacy-day-application)
Dusty!!! So stoked to see you on this platform.
So thankful you let me know it exists, @fern22! 🤩
Thanks, @Denise_R, @Berriosa1234, and @coopscadoop for all of your responses. They're much appreciated. I'll certainly check out the links/info y'all shared over the coming days.
