Canada Travel recommendations

We are travelling (my wife Anna and Wayne)from Australia to Canada in August 2024 for 5 Weeks - We are travelling to Calgary BC - Vancouver Island and Toronto for an extended day hiking/car based holiday - It will be my first overseas trip I am 6 years since Heart Transplant and wanted to find out which Canadian based Hosptals specialise in Heart Transplants should we need any assistance whilst we are over there - We have travel insurance organised - Is there a Transplant association in Canada that I can ask for any resources

I love this question! Canadian here - I’m in northern Alberta.
all of the provinces are going to have transplant centres that would be able to help should an emergency arise. It sounds like you’re going to really big city centres, which is your best bet should you need any specialized care.
in Alberta, the biggest transplant centre would be Edmonton, which is a few hours from Calgary but the teams work closely together so if you end up having to go to a hospital in Calgary they’ll just contact the appropriate team. I’m rural and even if I go in to my small town local emerg, they’re pretty good about communication and looping in transplant teams.
Vancouver and Toronto are both major centres so you’ll be in great hands. I was on Vancouver island last summer, actually, and loved it.
i would feel comfortable accessing transplant care in any of those places. And odds are they’ll just be in communication with either the heart transplant doctors in that area or your team back home wherever you go.
as far as places to connect to, I love the Canadian Donation Transplantation Research Project. They have a ton of resources that span the country and can help direct as needed. I know in BC their local group is BC transplant, Alberta is Alberta Transplant Institute and I believe Ontario is Trillium and they should all have information for you too.

Thanks Ali for the information - I have sent a request to the research project noted above - We are staying in a variety of places- Calgary < Jasper < Banff, Victoria,< falls and various other places Hiring a car and mainly doing day hikes in the areas - I can find an itinerary and forward if you are interested
