Sodium intake during the holidays

With the holiday season in full swing, I've noticed my salt intake, water retention, weight gain, and bloating are at their peak. It got me wondering—do transplant patients experience these effects differently? Or could these issues pose a greater risk for you?

I'm one of the weird ones here where I'm recommended extra salt. So my focus is on making sure I'm getting enough salt, drinking enough water... I notice if I'm not on top of these things, it definitely hits me really hard.

The other thing I notice with all the holiday parties is the abundance of food and drinks, and making sure I don't go overboard. I don't explicitly say no I can't have something (except grapefruit!) but I do have to be more mindful.

There is no difference in water retention for me. Water Retention remained constant after my transplant. I don't add salt to my foods. I know that my in-laws add more seasoning than I am used to, and I select smaller portions to eat. I make sure I drink my water. I try my best to be more mindful now more than ever.
