Weight Gain

Hi There,

I am 4 months post transplant.

I have gained nearly 20 pounds and it is really upsetting to me. Mostly because it makes it harder to do yoga effectively. I have always been a healthy eater and very active.

It seems like activity is being interrupted because I get so tired easily. It is very frustrating.

I am a single mom so very little time to rest but I get really anxious when I can't work out.

Everyone tells me to just be thankful and that it's early on and I get that...but why the sudden weight?

Sorry to whine

Whining is totally allowed - you just went through something really really hard!

Have you checked with your medical team? They might be able to provide more insight into your specific situation. When I had my transplant, it took me 9ish months to get back to where I was. I was exhausted, my weight was fluctuating like crazy, my emotions were all over the place. I think my body was just trying to adjust to a new normal and figure itself out after such major trauma. It did all end up balancing out, but it took a really long time. I heard all the stories of people who just bounced back after transplant and that definitely wasn't my experience.

I'm sure you already know to give yourself some grace, but if a reminder will help I'll say it again. You are dealing with so much, and everything you're experiencing makes total sense. Are there any other anxiety management techniques you can add in in the meantime while the form of exercise you might be used to isn't as accessible for you?

I know you mentioned yoga - when I got back into yoga post transplant my practice was literally one pose, and I got so frustrated I couldn't do more so I can definitely relate. If you ever want to chat, I'm always available.
