How do people feel about xeno transplantation? The most recent compassionate care case was done at NYU by Dr Montgomery, and the patient is doing well!

I am so excited to hear about her progress and have hoped for the future - how do you feel?

I’m willing to give it a try if possible. I have built up a lot of antibodies in the 35+ years of my transplant. I hope that the process continues and is improved towards better outcomes. I personally believe that transplantation earlier in the course of organ failure can result in longer graft life, and xeno transplantation could be the answer.

I don't think I would ever do it personally. I have a lot of questions and reservations and concerns, and it's still too new for me to really get behind the idea. I am interested to see what happens in the future, though.

As someone who is actively looking for a 2nd kidney transplant I do find Xeno very intriguing. I would be willing to listen to the docs and hear him out. I think the future is now with this opportunity to help the thousands of people with kidney failure and xeno is just one step.

I would have considered a Xeno transplant. It was apparent that dialysis was no longer an option for me. I was a compassionate care patient. I remember my surgeon letting me know transplantation was my only option. I told him I wanted to live. If Xeno was presented to me at the time, I would have said yes.

I can definitely understand @Ldybug97 if I was faced with your circumstance I too would have said yes. It’s clear that all of us have in common a serious situation in life and we dealt with it the best way possible. But life is beautiful.

@KevR Thank you! Life is precious and beautiful. I am almost 2 years post . i am grateful that my doctor would agree to do it. I am healthier . I have been able to accomplish so many things and meet so many amazing people especially in our Transplantlyfe community. I had minutes to make my decision and my response was “ I want to live” I had aStatus 5 listing which is difficult to get. If ever presented the opportunity which I hope is a long time from now I would consider Xeno
