I underwent kidney transplant surgery on 2/27/2025. I am truly blessed…I was contacted 2 months after being placed on the kidney transplant list by the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) in Baltimore, Md. my question is the amount of drugs that I have to take to prevent infection and organ rejection is making me feel tired and weak. I don’t have any energy. I am due to go to my 2nd appt with UMMC on Monday 3/10/2025 and will bring it up to the doctors. Just wanted to know if this is a common feeling of being exhausted and tired.

Your meds will decrease overtime and energy will improve. Force yourself to exercise/walk to rebuild your strength and stamina. Energy will follow! I’m 38 years out and take two pills per day for transplant. 50 mg of imuran 4 mg of medrol. Your just getting started it will get better hang tough!

It's not uncommon to feel tired. On 2/212/24, I had my second kidney transplant (the first one was from my sister back in 1990 - lasted 33 1/2 years. This one was from my brother). Definitely drink your water and try to exercise each day. That helped me to heal and regain my energy. :-)

Congrats on your new bean! It's been 19 years since my transplant, but I remember it taking 3 to 6 months for my body to get used to everything. Once I was cleared to exercise, I started walking and adding a little more each week. That also helped with my energy. And, of course, drinking lots of water. In the first few months, your body goes through a lot. I've heard some people are refreshed, and their bodies adjust within days, and for some of us, it takes a little longer.

I had my transplant done on 11/13/2024. The meds are being adjusted as your bloodwork results are analyzed. Hang in. I started with 16 of the anti rejection and anti infection tablets daily. I am down to 7 tablets daily now. CKGuy
