No appetite and fatigue

It's been a year and a half since my liver transplant, and I am struggling with no appetite, weight loss, and crazy fatigue. Does this happen periodically? Is this a new "norm"? Just new at this. Thank you all for being here for us transplanted peeps!

I hit 6 months post on Monday. Lost about 40 lbs during process. Gained back about 15 lbs Jan-Feb back home crazy appetite eating everything but plateaued on weight still. All those issues now appetite has dropped. Switched from Tac to Cyclyo last month for brain fog but still have that and short term memory issues. Stopped Pred last week. I know I’m more recent but yeah, the appetite change came out of nowhere.

@Brierquhart80 It's ok that you're newly transplanted! Congratulations! It is good (and bad. Lol) to hear that this is something others experience, too. It has been a while since my surgery, but new things pop up all the time. Thank you for your support.

@TiaBean Thank you, I hope to say I’m a year and a half like you! Sure as you know what USC called about an hour after I replied to you because they did some extra tests due to loss of appetite, etc. and I’m showing signs of rejection. So they loaded me up on Pred and more tests on Monday will determine if I have to get readmitted. 🤷‍♂️

I’m 5 years out of my liver transplant and definitely still have periods of intense fatigue and just not being hungry. Usually I find if I’m trying to work through something, either physically, mentally or emotionally, but my conscious self hasn’t registered it yet it will show up in my body. That said, my first line of action is always to get labs done to double check everything.

I am sorry to hear you are struggling. I too have no appetite. Mine is due to a med I drink called Ure-na for chronic hypoatremia (low sodium). I have been hospitalized 7 times in 27 months post transplant for this condition. While drinking this stuff that smells like Mr. Clean and tastes worse, I drink it to stay out of the hospital. Eating is a hassle and I am never hungry. My docs tried a synthetic THC but the dose was too high. Waiting until August for a lower dose to be available. It worked well but I felt “high” and did not like the feeling.

What works for me is liquid calories. I drink Ensure and make protein smoothies. Drinking seems to be better than eating.

    hang in there!
