Hi just wanted to say hi and introduce myself to this forum. I'm a 21 year retired military veteran, I have underwent 2 liver transplants with my most recent in December of 2024. Looking for insight on other transplant patients concerning diet, health, exercise (mainly running), and everything that has to do with being a transplant survivor. Looking to hear from you all. Have a great day! 😀

Heyy why 2 liver transplantation surgery. One is enough right to live . Did ur transplant liver damaged again ??!?!
Yes Praveen. For some reason after almost 5 years after my first transplant, I had complications with my hepatic artery. I had a total occlusion that blocked all blood flow to my liver. Even though my body did produce collaterals (tiny blood vessels) to provide blood to my liver, it ultimately cause my bile ducts to diate and narrow. Which in turn caused multiple problems and damaged my liver beyond repair. So my only option was to get another transplant 😕. But luckily I was higher up on the UNOS list because of my MELD score so I didn't have to wait nearly as long as I did for my first transplant.
@eachone Did anything cause that, or do they know? Thank you for sharing.
The doctors don't know what caused it to happen Tia. They said that normally if you have a hepatic artery problem, it usually occurs within the first year post transplant. So it threw them for a loop on what caused it. I thought possibly running might have had something to do with it because shortly after my transplant, I started running to stay in shape and maintain a healthier lifestyle. But they said it was not the cause. So I might never know 🤔. Which scares me because I don't know what to avoid that would possibly cause a repeat occurrence 😬🤷
That is scary. I had to have a second surgery the following day due to that. All we can do is live healthy.
Wow! I'm so sorry to hear that. Do know if they had to do an ERCP? They tried to do that with mine to get to the bile ducts which was dilated but they waited too long and the hepatic artery was 100% blocked and they couldn't even get into the liver to try to put a stent to help the problem. I hope whatever they did to fix your problem takes care of it permanently so you don't have to go through that again 🙏

@eachone i also had major bile duct complications. Rejected my first transplant immediately, was retransplanted 3 days later. I’ve had a few stents since then - so far doing great but they keep a really close eye on me
OMG I am scared .. does it happen to Kidney transplant patient also how to take care . I had kidney transplant before an year .is there anyone with these complications for your graft organ
Not sure if it happens to kidney patients. Might want to talk with your Nephrologist to see what they say. I hope not to be honest 🙏
