I combine it with
a big party
On my 2 year liver anniversary from my first transplant I ran a half marathon. It was pretty awesome as I had my UNOS number from my donor engraved on custom made shoes from Nike. Along with a T-shirt I had made
. It was definitely a salute to my donor! π«‘π
My two year is coming up in January. No plans yet.
Any ideas?

Running a half marathon showcases the benefits of the transplant for sure!! Bravo!!
I'm a two-time living kidney recipient so I always call my donors and then on 5, 10, 15 years out for my first transplant I shared a special gift with my donor - bought a star for them, bought an engraved rivet at the Harley-Davidson Museum. With my current donor we have a special celebration like a dinner and memorable gift.
I hosted a fundraiser for my transplant hospital and donated the money to the patient assistance fund for transplant waitlist patients and recipients

For years 5, I spent it at a neuroscar training on the nervous system, body image and how scars affect our sense of self, which sounds so nerdy but for me it was really a full circle moment. This was work I only got into because of my transplant, and the ability to fly across the country so easily was something I wouldn’t have had before
Traveled to Coco Beach Florida with my partner and best friends for my 1st year. 2nd year had a few of my best friends over for dinner. If I make it to 3, not sure, no plans yet. Looking into getting involved as a volunteer for an organ donor organization in the meantime.
This past February was my 5 year post liver transplant. I always get a cupcake and a birthday candle for that year, but last Friday was a little different.
For the last 4 years, I have volunteered for a Wisconsin nonprofit focused on saving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation (Live Love Donate). This year and last, my mom and sister have been coming and supporting. When I got to the hole we were volunteering on this year, I was in for a surprise. My family sponsored that hole in honor of 5 years post transplant and my donor.
I love volunteering for this organization each year and hearing all the stories from those golfing and volunteering.
@bhameister Congrats on that special day!ππππ. Seemed like you were surprised and the best part is that it showcased you and your donor on a milestone mark. Awesome story! π«Ά
My kindey transplant is in February and I always make sure to visit my mom who is my living donor. Usually, I too celebrate with a ski trip! Have not made it out west yet, but I have skiied the east quite a bit!
I love reading these anniversary celebrations! Especially as so many people take that day to give back!
