  • I don't, I'm sorry. I'm researching for a school project.

Oh boy, I am so sorry that I am just seeing this 🤦‍♀️

I know it's probably way too late, but here it is anyway...

    • There is about a 50-60% success rate at 5 years, once transplanted. This means that there is basically a 50/50, both for the transplanted organ to still be functioning AND for the recipient to still be alive. Unfortunately, there is still no known predictor for success.
    • If I remember correctly, about 30% of people die while listed and waiting for a match.
    • I believe the average wait time once listed is 6-12 months, but it depends on a lot of things. Personally, I only had to wait 10 days, but I don't know if I just got lucky to find an almost perfect match, or if it was because of my severity/urgency. We went back and forth about an isolated intestine, or multivisceral, but because isolated bowels have a much shorter wait time than those also needing a stomach, liver, pancreas, etc. The hope was that the other organs would hopefully reverse, or, at the very least, slow or stop further damage (e.g. for some, being on TPN longterm can be really damaging to the liver). It also depends on the recipient (and donor)'s size, including adults that are small enough to need a child donor, which definitely delays things and results in a longer wait time.

Again, SO sorry that it took me this long! Hope this helps, even if it's just for a future intestinal patient. And of course, if there are any additional questions, send them my way, as I will be checking this more frequently now that I know how to navigate the website.
