What do you wish your team knew about chronic illness mental health?

I feel like the mental health conversations are plentiful as of late and I need to chime in!

I’m headed this morning to go present to a university class on chronic illness mental health.

if there was one thing you wish your team knew about mental and emotional health living with a chronic illness, what would it be?

For me it would mean taking more time to ask the patient how they feel emotionally. Sometimes my docs are so focused on one aspect of my transplant that it seems like they forget that I am a human being not just a body to fix. Really look at the whole person. Asking questions about life outside of managing meds and juggling health care appointments and insurance.
