I am so itchy after my transplant. It's been almost two years. Does anyone else deal with this awfulness?

Yes, I had ridiculous amounts of itching for the first year, then not as bad year 2. I was on all the histamine blockers and I still felt like bugs were crawling all over me! It got better on its own beginning of year 3, I still am itchy sometimes, but not like I was. I don’t even take Benadryl every day anymore.
Did you have any itching before? I'm still waiting for my transplant but my skin itches so bad sometimes it's like needles poking me. They've run tests to rule out things like excema and they tell me it's from my meds but it's so bad it keeps me up most nights.
Before transplant my itching was sometimes due to high phosphate level . Is yours normal
I had super wicked bad puritius (itchiness due to bile ducts complications). Nothing helped. My fiance had to give me daily full body scratching sessions which helped for a very short period of time. Worse was trying to sleep with these conditions. Unbearable and I was jumping out of my skin daily 24 hours a day. I was waiting for a liver transplant (my second unfortunately) and my billirubin at the highest point hit anywhere from 25-40. Crazy stuff. Also I had a conair comb handy at all times and was breaking them on a continuous basis from using it on my skin. Worse times for sure 😫😫😫
@Jeremy79 Yes. I was itchy before. I thought I would be done with this madness by now! Sorry. I am really itchy right now. 😆
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one 😅 I've tried moisturizers, creams, antihistamines, nothing works. I just carry a horse hair brush around with me and sleep with a back scratcher lol.
Being itchy is indeed awful! I am sorry you have to go through this. When my kidney numbers get high/gfr low, I itch. My nephrologist ordered Sama lotion. It really helped take the edge off. My kidneys have stabilized to a stage 3b sometimes stage 4 and gratefully the itchiness has stopped. Did your transplant dermatologist have any recommendations? We can’t be the only 6 transplant people who get this. If you find something that helps, please share. In the meantime, I wish you itch free days and nights! ❤️
