We could have talked for hours in our support group tonight with our 20+ year transplant recipients! A part 2 is definitely needed.

In the meantime, drop your questions here. What have you always wanted to know about long term survival post transplant?

yes! I know it varies person to person, and organ type to organ type, but after the first year most people are able to get off a lot of the meds/decrease dosages.

The meds do decrease over time but the dosing can also be dependent on other anti-rejection medications you take. For example with myself I am on 7m of Envarsus once a day, Myfortic 1080mg twice a day and 5mg prednisone. If my GI could handle an increase in my Myfortic dose I could lower the dose of Envarsus I am taking. And as someone else said it also depends on the organ.

Some programs give patients prophylactic medications after transplant to prevent the recipient from developing conditions like CMV and Thrush. Which can be the reason why you take so many pills early on as a recipient.

I am a kidney transplant recipient.
