Travel Podcast
A new episode of the TransplantLyfe podcast is now available! In this episode, I sit down with Vanessa, a kidney transplant recipient and airline pilot, to talk about traveling after transplant.
Vanessa shares how she rebuilt her confidence by starting small, preparing carefully, and gradually working her way toward exploring the world again. We discuss planning ahead, packing medications, navigating airports, staying safe, and finding a balance between being cautious and still enjoying the adventure.
This conversation was especially meaningful to me because Vanessa’s advice helped give me the confidence to travel solo to Italy, something I wasn’t sure I would ever feel ready to do.
I hope you’ll give the podcast episode a listen! I’d also love to hear from you: Has transplant changed the way you travel? What tips have helped you feel more prepared and confident?

As a newly transplanted patient, I know I can't travel too far, being 5 months out. I know when recovering from the transplant in NYC and then having to travel back to my home state of Kentucky there were a lot of logistical things I needed to take care of. Challenging, Now for purposes of traveling for fun, I havent had the chance to do that yet, but i think this pod brings up a lot of good ideas. Thanks @Jeanmarie for doing this interview

I am 21 months since transplant and my journey has been uneventful. My medication management to support my travels have centered around ensuring adequate medication to cover the intended period and a extra supply to cater for emergencies. A reason to contact my transplant team has not occurred but I am constant look out for any symptoms that would require some form of medical attention. My advice would be to live normally and observe and normalize the required restrictions.
