Hello everyone. Let's give @Marydmac a warm welcome here at TransplantLyfe.

Mary D. McCorvey grew up in Moss Point, MS as the fifth child of six to two loving parents. As the baby girl, Mary learned early on how to work hard, stand strong and advocate for her needs.

She was diagnosed at the age of thirteen with Type 1 Diabetes, which created an internal drive to keep moving and not allow this to limit her life.

Mary has spent her life teaching others. She started teaching eighth grade after earning her bachelor’s degree in Upper Elementary Education from Xavier University and continued her journey in education at Harvard Graduate School of Education where she earned her Master’s degree in Risk and Prevention. Mary has been in public education for twenty-five years where she has worked as a Science teacher, mentor teacher and department chairperson.

These days she excitedly does the work of teaching the teachers in schools as an Instructional Specialist and Consultant. In her spare time, Mary is an active member of the New Faith Church in Houston, Texas and is a lover of the Houston Arts scene. She enjoys traveling, watching sports, working out, and organizing family events!

On April 1, 2019, Mary’s life changed when she received the gift of organ donation. The years of living with Type 1 Diabetes and Stage 4 chronic kidney disease ended when she received a new kidney and pancreas. Now four years later, she is stronger than ever and has a new perspective on what it means to survive and thrive.

    Welcome to TransplantLyfe, @Marydmac !

I can't wait to get to know you better on here. You and I share something in common. We're both lucky and grateful recipients who were blessed with the Gift of Life during Donate Life Month. (I'm a heart recipient, transplanted on 4/20/2015).

I wish you all the best on your journey - keep on sharing your story to educate and raise awareness. 👍
