What to do when you’re not “clicking “with your doctor?

I am relatively new to the platform, so I am posting this as a discussion, but it’s also a question that I personally have grappled with … there is one established large nephrology practice in my area, which has two designated post kidney transplant, medication specialists… so I proactively chose the one with the most renowned reputation… We just don’t click… I’m in the process of transitioning to the one other specialist, who I do click with from meeting him on the doctor service call…

Welcome, Jay! We are so happy to have you! I think this is really an important question. I say, find the one you click with. I have found over the years that your team of doctors is one of the most important things to a successful transplant. If your doctor runs into an issue that they do not know how to solve with will usually ask another doctor for input.
When I had an unexplainable issue my Nephrologist called the one I don't really care for and they compared notes and together they figured it out. I think the main doctor you choose you'll want someone that you like and trust and are willing to share everything with.
Yes you are correct. I’m so much looking forward to my first visit with the new doctor in December. He has insisted on a 60 minute first session even though I’m not a new patient to the practice… a lot has happened in the last few months… I feel like I’m connecting a lot here with people. What a wonderful platform.
Thank you for welcoming me.
Jay, We r so happy we can all share our TPjourney together on this blog. I too had a Dr. that we were not working out either I switched, I am so much happier w/my new PCP great communication w/each other.
I absolutely LOVE my TP team, they r an incredible group of professionals.
@Jay That is great your doctor has set aside so much time for you. I always go in with my list of questions. Haha. I have a notes app on my phone and anything I might want to ask any of my doctors, I have it right there on my phone. I have found that doctors love when we are prepared with questions. It shows how dedicated we are to making our health a priority.
We are so glad you found us. It's a wonderful community with so many inspirational stories.
@jay Welcome to our transplant family. I’m glad feel like you can share things with us. I think it’s great you realized that one doctor was not going to be right for you and you took the step to get another one. It sounds like you chose a good match this time. Best of luck. Let us know how your first appointment goes. Until then stay healthy!!
I agree it is sooooo important to click with your doctor. Specialty doctors need to not only have knowledge of their specialty, but they need to be able to connect with their patients on a more intimate level as they need to treat each patient as an individual with specific needs and not generalize them. If you do not have a good communication and TRUST with them, it would be hard to share your care honestly with transparency. You need to be able to rely on your team and know they "see" you as a person and not just another patient.
👍 totally agree 💯.
@Jeanmarie yes I bring questions…
thank you all for your feedback
