Anasarca ( Build up of fluid)

Has anyone else been admitted in the hospital for Anasrca?

Since February of 2024, I have noticed significant weight changes. Now that I think back, I did not have edema when I was on dialysis. People just assumed I was enjoying life and eating. I knew something was wrong and followed up with every specialist I had. I was swollen from my face to my feet. It caused me to have shortness of breath. Last Tuesday, I was sent to the hospital diagnosed with Anasarca after months of trying to reduce the swelling outpatient.

I was tested for everything and all tests were negative. They are now attributing it to Venous Insufficiency due to what my body has been through over the years and the clotting disorder I have. I am on a very high dosage of Lasix now which has elevated my anxiety... I just wanted to share this with everyone.

Even though I have not experienced this, I think its great that you are sharing this experience with all of us. I am really sorry you are going through this. I hope it gets sorted out and you can start to feel better and relieve some of that anxiety.

I think its so important that you listened to your body when you knew something was off. Things get passed on too often when the answers aren't clear. Also, so many medications contribute to woresning anxiety and it's frustating when the very medication that is suppose to help is making you feel worse. Again, I am really sorry and wishing you all the best.

@Dom thank you so much for your message. It really made me smile this morning. I’m so happy that you haven’t gone through this and I hope you never have to. My journey has been a little strange so some unimaginable things have happened to me. I just try to share some of the information that I can in hopes that I can inform others so that if it ever happens to them, it may be a little bit easier on them. Wishing you the best and I hope you’re doing well.

Hi @Ldybug97 , I was just thinking back to this message and wanted to see how you are doing? Has there been any improvements with the lasix?

@Dom thank you for checking in with me. I really appreciate it.. After my hospital today, they sent me home on 120 mg of Lasix with metolazone . The swelling has reduced in my lower legs, but it’s in other areas of my body. Through my dialysis journey, I had a lot of complications which is attributed to what’s going on. So I’m going to try to lose wait to see if that will help . They said is most likely a venous insufficiency. They have reduced my fluid intake to see if that will help. The fluid is pretty much just stuck in different areas of my body. I hope you’re doing well.

@Dom thank you I really appreciate it. I’m just glad that some of the fluid has come off. I’ve been dealing with it for over a year now. I’ve been through so much but gratefully my medical teams are all on one page to get this situation treated. I wish you well also.

@Ldybug97, so sorry you’re having another fight. I know you’ve had many. I’m not as a good a Christian as I should be but I will take some time out tonight to make sure I mention you specifically in my prayers.

    God bless @Ldybug97

@KevR Thank you so very much. I really appreciate you wanting to pray for me and reaching out to me. May God continue to keep blessing you. I have been through a lot, but prayers and my medical teams is why I’m still here and thriving. At this point, my medical teams are very happy that all tests are negative for what they suspected it to be. So I must stay grateful. At the beginning, and it was very hard for me to digest all of this, but my transplant, social worker, my therapist, my surgeon and All of my doctors reassured me that it will be OK and they will monitor it closely. The Transplantlyfe community also has played a major role in helping me getting through this. I hope you’re doing well.

@KevR thank you. I failed to mention my donor because if I didn’t have an amazing donor, I wouldn’t be here. An article is going to be written on Tuesday through my Transplant hospital and I will post it in the group so that you can actually see it. I just want be a symbol of hope for others to never get up.
