Anyone take Ubrelvy or Ajovy for migraines?
Hi all 👋
Anyone here take Ubrelvy or Ajovy injections for migraines? Any side effects? I am 9.5 years post kidney transplant, and my high blood pressure is managed with medications. I've been seeing a migraine specialist for some time as my migraines have gotten worse over the last 2 years. I take Nurtec but my insurance only allows 8 tablets for 30 days and unfortunately, I end up needing more each month. Insurance also denied me for botox to treat migraines due to the cost, but I did hear that is the safest way to go as it doesn't have any systematic effect on the body or blood pressure. I just got approved for Ajovy injections and waiting to hear what my copay will be but there is a little bit of worry about it affecting my blood pressure. Also waiting to get approved for Ubrelvy which would allow a higher quantity of pills in a 30-day period.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Hello Friend,
So sorry to hear about your migraines. During my "migraine era" I would try many things to feel better. I felt they always coincided with the weather and my sinuses. One Neuro doc said to add magnesium to my diet which helped, I would take "imitrex" & "sumatripsomething." I discovered "Peace of Mind" peppermint balm from Origins. (I am not receiving any compensation for the shout out :) I get it at Macy's. The combo of peppermint and eucalyptus really helped soothe me on the bad days. You put it on your trigger points and back of your neck/head. It would alleviate my migraine and nausea. Check it out. I have your #, I might follow-up and send you some. It has helped me and my 3 kids who all suffer from migraines. Pre-transplant I would get the visual disturbances (zig zag neon flashing lights in my eyeball) prior to the migraine. I hope you don't have that as well.
Hope you get approved soon for your new medication.

I had terrible headaches and migraines after transplant. They put me on Metoprolol for BP, Amitrityline for tension, and I do get botox for headaches. Been working well for me.
You are too kind and sweet!!! Thank you for the suggestions!! I will look into it balm! I do take magnesium and used to be on sumatriptan several years ago but I ended up having weird sensations in my arms chest and neck so I had to stop. It worked pretty well while I had it.
With the nurtec and zofran combo I can usually get them under control pretty quickly as long I take it early enough. I now get singular flashing lights but sometime even a day or two before, which I did not realize were early signs that I may get one.
Did your migraines actually get better after transplant?
Thank you for sharing, Tia! How long have you been doing the botox injections? I hope the Ajovy helps and if not, I hope I eventually get approved for the botox. It is just insane to constantly be getting between 8 - 12 migraine headaches a month
That's so unacceptable. I get them every twelve weeks. About two years now.
Dom, YOU JINXED ME! 😎
I do not remember having any migraines after transplant - until TODAY! Ha. ha. It started off as allergies, and this morning my old familiar friend was back. Our California weather is flip-flopping, we even had an early morning earthquake jolt! So, that might explain my migraine. But, "hello my little friend" is back for a visit. I am reaching for my headache balm, then tylenol if needed. I don't have a current migraine pills RX! That is how long it has been. Hope you get your issue resolved soon.
