This will Act will be helpful to so many! Next stop: The House has to vote to pass it. I suppose all we can do is to keep our fingers (& toes) crossed & say a little prayer.

Does Medicare help pay for immunosuppressant drugs for transplant pts.
Yes, part B covers immunosuppressant meds for 3 years post transplant but I think a new law will go into effect in 2023 where they will be covered for life.
Wow, what do you do after the 3yrs. are up to help pay for the meds. Let’s hope it goes thru.
I was shocked how expensive they are.

There is apparently a new law in effect starting next year that Medicare will cover these meds for life.

For more than twenty years, advocates fought for the extension of Medicare part B coverage of immunosuppressive medications for kidney transplant recipients. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the kidney and transplant ecosystem, in December 2020, the law did pass. It takes effect beginning in 2023! 👍

I'm in Canada and have never paid a dime for any of my transplant meds. If I had to, I don't know how we'd be able to afford it. Sending all my support to those affected
So how far back does this go and does the transplant have to have been paid by Medicare?

I believe it applies to folks who are currently with Medicare & in the future (the act becomes effective in 2023).
Please check with Medicare (CMS) for specifics/details.
