Everyone probably looks at me and see a strong woman. I am strong in so many ways, but I am secretly carrying around a body that needs strengthening. I have severe osteoporosis.
I am working with an endocrinologist to rebuild my bones. I am also going to yoga and increasing my time walking and working in my garden.
Transplant life can throw us challenges, but we are more than physically strong. We are fierce. We look at these challenges and with each other's thoughts and prayers, we fight on. We live fierce. We fight fierce. Most importantly, we love fierce. I got this.
I agree with you. I have learned that having a strong mindset is half the battle. Keep striving and you will rebuild your strength, Being patient with yourself and give yourself grace
I will say even though I mentioned several not so great side effects I have as a result of my transplant, I wouldn't trade it for dialysis in a minute. I am extremely grateful to my donor family for all the amazing opportunities this kidney has given me!
Hello LaVise my friend. It was a wonderful weekend. We had to take our autistic son to his special needs dance, which was already amazing and I was more excited than him. Then my wife had an idea, since we had to kill a few hours to pick him up, we went to a local favorite restaurant and had a great lunch outside. Since the weather is great, it was finally amazing to eat somewhere outside the home.
Another amazing thing happened this weekend. I had the first puppy photoshoot after my surgery last year. It was such an amazing trip. German Shepherd puppies. It is a guy I know, he breeds them and I do shoots for him, so it was such a perfect day and great weather.
I am so happy to hear all the amazing things you are doing. Keep making those memories
Since Monday, May 18, 2026 my wife and I are officially members of the transplant community!!!
My brave wife gave me 60% of her liver. I will be eternally grateful for this precious gift to continue growing old together, creating new memories, see our children and grandchildren raise their families. We are still in the hospital in Baltimore, but just in these last few days we have met so many amazing people, that are caring for us and are supporting us, there is so much kindness around us, it seems unreal. We are looking forward to the new chapter of our lives.
So great to hear your wait is finally over! Congratulations to you both! Welcome to the Transplant Kingdom where it is always sunny, people are always grateful, even on the gloomy days of recovery, and we occasionally eat too much ice cream. I am so happy for you both and the future that lies ahead! ❤️
I have not stopped! This 2026 has been a whirlwind of news, opportunities, and new experiences. In February, I heard from my donor's mother. She answered my letters. I can now say her name! Laide Evelyn Ladepo is my donor goddess! Perfect heart, perfect match. Together, we played softball at the Field of Dreams in Iowa, on Mother's Day weekend. We were part of Team Rocky Mountain - Transplant Team. We placed 2nd! Team Iowa brought the heat! At the beginning of May, I was invited to go to my State Capitol to help advocate for Donate Life California. I was able to bring a photo of Laide with me and share my story. I am gearing up to honor Laide at the Denver Transplant Games of America. She was a Navy Veteran! I can't let her down. Will I see any of you at the Games? Let's connect!
